How data governance improves data protection
“Which personal data was affected in the data breach? From which individuals? How do you determine the extent?” As a DPO, you’ve probably faced these questions before. That’s why DPI and Data Trust Associates have developed a training program aimed at providing DPOs with the essential skills and insights to effectively answer similar practical questions. With a strong focus on data governance, we equip you with concrete tools to act confidently and expertly in such situations.
This training not only focuses on data breaches but also addresses other key issues and related solutions that DPOs face, for which data governance is the key. We dive into the challenges surrounding the exercise of data subjects’ rights, such as handling access requests swiftly and efficiently. You’ll learn how, as a DPO, you can proactively anticipate these various challenges while also being prepared to react to unexpected situations. Topics such as data classification in the context of risk analysis, for instance in a DPIA, are also covered extensively.
This training also addresses data integrity, a crucial theme in the AI revolution. Ensuring data integrity guarantees that machines are better trained, leading to more accurate AI models, insights, and reporting, as well as supporting automation processes.
The training concludes with a checklist, comprising a set of recommendations and key points to help you, as a DPO, improve data governance in your organization and reap the benefits of existing data governance programs.
“Data Governance for DPOs” is based on a successful one-day course organized by Dasprivé in June 2024. We actively use incidents from this podcast as an inspiration for this training.
Why take this course?
Understanding the complexity of data governance and data protection is essential for Data Protection Officers. This course helps DPOs develop preventive and corrective measures to effectively and efficiently address data-related issues, such as data breaches and access requests, and to respond adequately when they occur. It not only enhances data protection but also positively impacts overall business operations and is increasingly a must-have for organizations due to regulations such as the Data Governance Act, the AI Act, the Data Act, etc.
Target audience:
This training is aimed at Data Protection Officers (DPOs) who want to deepen their knowledge and skills in data governance, data quality, and data protection. Professionals involved in data management and compliance within their organization will also benefit from this course.
Learning objectives:
- Understand the causes and consequences of prominent GDPR incidents and data breaches.
- Learn how data governance and data quality can contribute to better data protection.
- Develop methods to ensure data quality.
- Identify best practices for preventive and corrective measures in case of data breaches.
- Strengthen the role of data governance and data quality in the data lifecycle, analytics, and AI.
Didactic approach:
The course combines theoretical knowledge transfer with practical exercises. We use case studies of actual GDPR incidents from the well-known DasPrivé podcast, providing a realistic learning experience. Interactive sessions, group discussions, and hands-on exercises with data catalogs are part of the program. A toolbox, including a checklist, helps the DPO take practical steps after the training.
Final product:
At the end of the course, participants will receive a printed version of the slide deck, including case studies and best practices covered during the course. This material can serve as a reference point for future challenges in data governance and data protection. A toolbox with a checklist will help the DPO take action on these topics after the course.
How to prepare:
No specific preparation is required for this training. However, GDPR knowledge is a prerequisite.
