The link between AI and data protection continues to evolve. That’s why DPI has expanded the AI for DPOs training with an extra module that brings practical insights even closer. As it becomes increasingly clear that data protection plays a role in AI projects from start to finish, we go beyond theory to explore how you, as a DPO, can make a difference.

We begin with a synthesis of the previous modules and apply it to generative AI. Do language models contain personal data? How do regulators assess this? We will analyze various publications from authorities, including the opinion of the EDPB, which was published at the request of the Irish authority.

Next, we take a close look at the AI project lifecycle. Where and when should a DPO be involved, and what specific aspects should you assess? We base our approach on the NIST Risk Management Framework, which builds on OECD methodology. From the initial planning of an AI system and data collection to deployment and monitoring—what risks should you identify, and what guidelines already exist? Topics covered in this context include:

  • The legal bases you can use for training and deploying models
  • The relationship between the AI Act and GDPR in terms of transparency and automated decisions
  • What “meaningful information” should be provided to data subjects when they inquire about automated decisions?
  • Applying the principle of “secondary use”
  • Implementing fundamental data protection principles in AI processing

We link all of this to recent cases, such as decisions from the Belgian DPA and the European Court of Justice—including the Schufa case and the recent Dun & Bradstreet rulings.

In short, this new module makes AI for DPOs even more relevant and practice-oriented. Sign up now and discover how you, as a DPO, can make an impact at every stage of an AI project!
